I learned a very VERY valuable lesson today. Never Never Never
Never
never
cut jalapenos with your bare hands. Your hands will burn for HOURS. I'm just thankful I didn't wipe my eyes! Otherwise, very very delicious!

Fresh Sushi in Tokyo
The fish stalls, after all the work has stopped. Fisherman come VERY early to unload the cargo, so naturally does everyone who wants fresh fish!
Me in front of the sushi restaurant we ate at.
Fresh unagi. I could practically feel it slithering down my throat!
The view from behind the counter :) Num num num

Pepper Lunch in Tokyo
This was something that Kevin and I HAD to learn how to make. Now we can make a fair imitation of this god-worthy dish. All it is: raw shabu shabu meat (paper thin sliced red meat), white rice, corn, scallions placed on a ribbed, fajita-like cast iron skillet and served hot. The heat from the skillet cooks the meat, carmelizes the rice and it's all together the best thing you've ever tasted. Here's me (totally jet lagged) enjoying my first helping!

Radler and Sausages in Munich
Original HB sausage platter with Viennese and pork sausages and pfälzer sausage on a bed of sauerkraut. One happy Karla!
Yummy, yummy mustard and beer (in background)
Hofbrauhaus Munchen. "What do you mean it comes in Liters!" Radler = light beer. One happy Kevin!

Romanian food in Sighisoara, Romania
The home of Vlad Tepes and a yummy, slightly overpriced restaurant :) But hey, in Romania everything is cheap so we didn't mind :)
In the restaurant. Don't light the napkins on fire with the live candle!

Beer and Bread Bowls in Hungary
View from the Buda side looking out to the Pest side. :)
We had much more interesting food than beer and bread bowls. But this is all I could find.

Nathan's Dog at Coney Island
Yes, this is delicious! No really! It's amazing. You have to try one. It's a Coney Island dog from the original Nathan's located at Coney Island. Sadly, Coney Island is no longer what it once was: full of loud carnies, arcades, fair rides and such. But you can still go and get a generous helping of cheesy dogs slathered in ketchup. Served with a fork!
Vicki and me at Coney Island. Wear shoes or sandals at all times. There is some nasty stuff on that beach.

Picnic in Prospect Park
Ah, the quinessential NY picnic. A must do for anyone! Here I am drinking Arizona tea in Prospect Park waiting for my friends to fire up the grill.
The grill master himself. This is Mike. Mike is married to my friend Vicki (pictured below). Grilling on top of a picnic table is the only way to go.
We stayed in the park for hours, like true locals should. Here is us messing around with cotton-candy 'staches! So cute.

Fried Yuca in Puerto Rico
I went to Puerto Rico to visit my friend Ro-el and his family. Here we are with the ocean behind us. It was a wonderful trip. I feasted heartily. :)
Here is an example of one of the local dishes I tried. I had fried yuca and LOVED it. The yuca is the long, tan things in the middle of this picture. I also had fried plaintains, which I continued to love in the states.

Bangers and Mash in Edinburgh
Ahh, Bangers and Mash. Truely delicious! Smooth, creamy mashed potatoes with four sausages jauntly placed top-side complete with a smatteringlly healthy-helping of peas. Scrumptious!
Here's a picture of me chilling in the restaurant. The name of the restaurant escapes me today.
